Weary Dunlop Activity

VolunteeringACT partners with the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) each year to deliver the Weary Dunlop Activity.

The Weary Dunlop Activity is a large-scale volunteering activity that sees first-year Training Officers (TOs) contributing their time to the Canberra community. Through this experience, Training Officers gain a deeper understanding of the lived experience in our community and how people are supported through volunteering and community services.

This partnership provides community organisations with an opportunity to boost their volunteering power for a day and tackle projects with a large team of volunteers.

Projects can include anything from refreshing your office gardens to donation sorting to providing conversation and technical support.

Considering Covid’s impacts, we want to offer the Training Officers as many opportunities for connection with the community as possible.
Many TO’s from past activities have said that their most valuable experience was being able to speak with people in the community. ADFA cadets are fit, strong, and get the job done fast. Organisations can also utilise this by offering physical volunteering activities, such as tasks requiring unskilled labour and gardening.

This year, the Weary Dunlop Activity will be held from Thursday 13 October to Friday 14 October.

We thank the organisations which expressed interest in the activity, and we will be in contact with everyone shortly.
