To be held during National Volunteer Week, the 2021 Volunteering Symposium is a full-day professional development opportunity dedicated to Managers and Coordinators of Volunteers. Over four sessions, delivered by industry professionals, attendees will learn how volunteer management practices have been adapted over the past 18 months and how we can work together to support a strong future for volunteering in our city.

The event will be hosted by VolunteeringACT’s CEO, Jean Giese.

What will be covered?

  • Hear from Volunteering Australia CEO Mark Pearce about how the volunteering landscape has changed and how we can leverage the events of 2020 to further enhance the pivotal role volunteers play in creating a more connected, diverse, and resilient Australia.
  • Mental health educator extraordinaire Heidi Prowse, CEO of Mental lllness Education ACT, will walk attendees through how to create a mentally healthy volunteer engagement framework. Whether you’re just starting out, or you have established programs, this session will provide helpful tips on how to position volunteers at the forefront of everything you do.
  • Back by popular demand, Mae Tanner, Lawyer at Justice Connect’s Not-for-Profit Law, will cover the legal considerations for managing a diverse volunteer workforce. Mae has a talent for distilling complex legal concepts into actionable steps that any organisation can implement in their programs.
  • And finally, all the way from the United Kingdom, volunteer management guru Rob Jackson will help us prepare for the future of volunteer management in a COVID world and beyond. Hear how the global landscape of volunteering has changed and how Managers and Coordinators of Volunteers can leverage new opportunities to enhance their volunteer workforce.
